The Senior Community Service Employment Program
The Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) subsidizes employment for seniors 55+, low income, and unemployed. This program incorporates working with a variety of local nonprofit and governmental agencies that serve as host agencies. Those agencies provide a steppingstone for program participants to help them return to the workforce by training at their work site for 20 hours per week.
SCSEP operates under The Northern Indiana Workforce Board (NIWB), in conjunction with Senior Services of America Inc. (SSAI), is funded by federal grants and donations, and is monitored by The Department of Labor. SCSEP is currently offered in St. Joseph, Elkhart, Kosciusko, Marshall, Noble and LaGrange counties.
Through SCSEP, participants have the opportunity to learn new skills, and gain valuable work experience. The goal of the program is for those who participate to gain permanent, unsubsidized employment that helps them maintain their independence, and improve their quality of life.
